Ceramic Handbuilding and Floral Design Class - A Two Part Series

$300.00

This class is a two part series of in-person workshops, taking place on Thursday, May 2nd and Thursday, May 16th from 7-9pm at our studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

In the first class on May 2nd, hosted by Michelle McLaughlin of Calyer Ceramics, we will learn how to make two ceramic vases using pinch and coil hand building techniques. The first vase we will make is a handbuilding exercise, where we will construct a precisely designed bud vase. Then, as our second project—we will make a footed, compote-style vase perfect for the most extravagant floral arrangements imaginable. (see photos!!)

Tools, tea, light snacks, and wine will be provided. Dress in an outfit you don’t mind getting a little messy in. After class, both vases will be finished by Michelle and glazed in a semi gloss white glaze that highlights the speckled clay body, setting the stage for the follow-up class on May 9th.

The second workshop on May 16th will be hosted by Natalie Yearwood, lead designer of Ember Floral – a wedding and event floral design company based in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (we’re studiomates, and friends!). The class is for all levels of experience with floral design – beginners VERY welcome! We will design a lush, garden-style centerpiece in a footed compote vase, ideal for centerpieces and statement arrangements. We’ll also make a petite bud vase arrangement. You’ll learn about floral sourcing, processing, and care along the way.

Premium floral ingredients with an emphasis on local, New York product will be provided along with all of the tools you’ll need to make these arrangements. This class is a follow-up to the ceramics class, as we will design in the vases you have created! You will be able to take the flowers and vases home that evening. Light snacks and wine will be provided.
